General Questions

What happens if I drive without a Slovenian vignette?

Driving without a valid e-vignette in Slovenia is a costly mistake, the fully automated system can detect any violation right away and you will be fined as follows:

  • Standard Fine: The penalty for driving on a motorway or expressway without a valid e-vignette is €300.
  • Misuse Fine: If you use a vignette from a different vehicle or select the wrong toll class (e.g., using a 2A vignette for a 2B van), the fine can rise to €500.
  • The "50% Discount": If you pay the fine on the spot or within 8 days, the amount is usually reduced to half of the amount (to €150/€250).

Furthermore, authorities have the right to confiscate your ID, passport, or driver's license on the spot to ensure the fine is paid. These documents can be held until the debt is cleared. In addition to the fine, you will still be required to purchase an e-vignette to continue your journey legally.
